The employees of Keesal, Young & Logan recognize the importance of making a positive impact on our communities and our environment.  It is our intention to leave things better than we found them and it is our commitment to incorporate sustainability into our core business operations through thoughtful action on a daily basis. Specifically, we will follow the following policies and practices:

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Materials

We will –
• Reduce waste at the source by printing double sided, buying in bulk, and eliminating single serve water bottles
• Reuse packaging, scrap paper, binders, office supplies and any materials that can be used more than once
• Refurbish and donate used computers and office equipment to schools and charitable organizations
• Redirect organic waste from the office to be used as environmentally beneficial compost rather than letting it go to a landfill (KYL SF, KYL Seattle)
• Recycle all paper, plastics, glass, and aluminum

Strive to Eliminate Toxics

We will reduce the use of toxic materials to protect employee health and the environment. Specifically we will –
• Dispose of or recycle toxic products safely
• Choose less toxic janitorial cleaning products
• Recycle waste lamps, batteries, aerosol cans and other universal waste
• Purchase low mercury fluorescent lamps when possible
• Implement an Integrated Pest Management program when controlling pests

Purchase Environmentally Preferable Products

We will purchase –
• Remanufactured toner cartridges
• Chlorine-free office paper and collateral with minimum 50% recycled content (or tree free paper)
• Chlorine-free janitorial papers (toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissues, napkins) with 35-100% recycled content
• Office products and supplies made from recycled material
• Promotional materials printed on 100% recycled materials with soy or low-VOC inks and include a statement indicating this
• Energy Star rated appliances and office equipment
• EPEAT certified computers (http://epeat.net/)
• The most water efficient toilets, urinals, showerheads and faucet aerators

Conserve Energy, Water and Natural Resources

We will conserve fossil fuels by –
• Promoting the use of public transit and commuter alternatives
• Offering commuter benefits
• Participating in spare the air campaigns and emergency ride home (KYL SF)
• Automatically turning off lights using timers and motion sensors, using energy-conserving hardware programs and unplugging equipment

When we remodel or build our facilities, we will strive to do so using LEED Green building standards.

Educate Our Employees

We will educate employees on resource conservation and pollution prevention through –
• Training programs to educate employees on proper recycling & composting practices, resource conservation ideas, importance of low-toxic purchasing, etc.
• Incentives designed to encourage environmentally preferable practices
• Informing employees of environmental issues just as we do with other matters of significant importance

Extend Our Efforts Beyond the Firm

We will inform our suppliers and vendors of these goals and require that sustainability is a primary consideration in their operations and products.

We will seek out and support not-for-profit organizations in our communities that share our hope for a brighter future through thoughtful resource reduction and sustainability efforts.
