Kate Handy is an associate with Keesal, Young & Logan in its Long Beach office. Her practice focuses on a broad range of civil litigation matters in arbitration and state and federal court, with an emphasis in employment and securities litigation.

In her employment practice, Kate defends employers in judicial and arbitration proceedings against claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour, and breach of contract, and numerous other related claims. A significant part of this practice involves employment advisory regarding similar claims.

Kate’s securities practice involves defending financial services firms, registered representatives and corporate executives in proceedings involving claims of unsuitability, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, fraud, and violations of federal and state securities laws. Kate’s experience also includes assisting firms in responding to third-party subpoenas in matters pending in civil, family, and probate court.

Kate has also developed an intellectual property practice area focusing on trademarks. This practice area involves registering, maintaining, and defending trademarks in infringement actions before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and courts of law. She has also represented financial services firms in trade secret misappropriation cases.

Kate graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. in political science and received her law degree from Pepperdine University School of Law in 2016, where she graduated cum laude and served as a Literary Citation Editor for the Pepperdine Law Review and as Chair of the Palmer Center for Entrepreneurship and the Law. Prior to her position at Keesal, Young & Logan, Kate had the opportunity to work as a judicial extern to the Honorable Neil W. Bason of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California and for the Honorable Margaret M. Morrow of the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
