On October 20, 2017, McKinley Malbrough III was presented with Keesal, Young & Logan’s 2017 California Bar Foundation Diversity Scholarship.  McKinley is the tenth recipient of KYL’s Diversity Scholarship through the California Bar Foundation.  These scholarships are presented to extraordinarily deserving first year law students and provide critical financial assistance to students from communities underrepresented in the California Bar, with the goal of increasing diversity in the legal profession.

McKinley is a graduate of Bellevue University, where he completed his degree in two years.  As a non-traditional student, McKinley worked full-time to provide for his family while taking on a full course load in school.  Witnessing his mother and brothers struggle to navigate the legal system with no access to any real assistance, McKinley decided to become the source of that assistance.  He is interested in pursuing a career in the sports or employment industry and hopes his legal expertise will allow him to volunteer regularly in his community.

The California Bar Foundation is the center of philanthropy for California’s lawyers, a major force in diversity efforts for the bar, and a leader in ensuring access to justice for all Californians.  The California Bar Foundation is California’s largest independent source of statewide law school diversity scholarships and pipeline program grants, and has instituted a first of its kind postgraduate legal fellowship placing diverse lawyers in some of the most underserved parts of the state.  Learn more about the Diversity Scholarship Program here.
