Keesal, Young & Logan opened its office in San Francisco in 1984. The
San Francisco office has 20 lawyers, 11 of whom are shareholders. Six of our lawyers were recognized in 2007 as Northern California Super Lawyers and two were recently recognized among an elite group of lawyers in the United States who deliver
the best service to Fortune 1000 clients.
The firm’s San Francisco practice mirrors the firm’s representation of top flight
corporate clients in a wide array of areas, including the defense of financial services
firms and broker-dealers, employment defense and advisory work, admiralty, intellectual
property litigation, white-collar defense, unfair competition, appellate, and general commercial litigation. As with the entire firm, the San Francisco office
is privileged to represent a myriad of companies on the leading edge of their respective
industries, many of which are counted among the Fortune 100.
The San Francisco office’s securities group represents most of the major
financial services firms and broker-dealers on Wall Street and in California in
federal and state class actions, securities arbitrations, regulatory proceedings
and related matters. These cases run the gamut of securities and commodities claims,
including suitability, churning, misrepresentation and sales practices claims, cases
alleging research and investment banking conflicts of interest, margin liquidations,
incentive stock option exercise cases, shareholder derivative class action claims,
customer solicitation claims, unfair business practices litigation, and audit
and compliance advisory work. We have a superb trial and arbitration record.
San Francisco’s employment group has tried and arbitrated a wide variety of disputes
under state and federal employment law, including claims for wrongful termination,
discrimination, wage and hour, ERISA, sexual harassment, defamation, breach of contract
and other related claims. We have successfully litigated and resolved multiple wage
and hour class actions. The group has defends claims before the California
Labor Commission, the EEOC, DFEH and other governmental/administrative agencies.
In addition to litigation, the San Francisco employment group counsels clients on
a wide variety of employment issues, including wage and hour, review and revision
of employee handbooks, terminations, harassment investigation, drug testing, COBRA,
OSHA, unfair competition, etc.
San Francisco’s Maritime and Transportation Group provides representation to businesses
involved in international and interstate transportation of goods and passengers.
We represent ship owners, tug and barge operators, vessel managers, charterers,
protection and indemnity associations and terminal operators in a number of areas, including environmental/oil spill incidents, casualty work, cargo loss claims,
matters arising under the Jones Act and the LHWC
Act. We also advise transportation clients regarding compliance with U.S. and international
laws and conventions, and
responses to actions initiated
by the various state and federal agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security
(including Coast Guard, Customs, and Immigration),
the Federal Maritime
Commission, the DEA, the EPA and the Department of Fish and Game.
The Group also represents
other commercial carriers, including air and road carriers, particularly with regard
to multi-modal transport.
Lawyers in the San Francisco office also represent firms in the high
technology sector in a variety of matters, including the prosecution and
defense of trademark, patent and copyright infringement, violation of licensing agreements, unfair competition
and related issues.
The San Francisco commercial practice includes the representation of banks and related
financial services firms in commercial cases, including forgery and bad checks matters,
embezzlement claims and the like. This representation includes litigation and advisory
work in the ever-expanding field of money laundering detection and prevention.
Located in the heart of San Francisco’s dynamic, international financial center
and in one of the nation’s premier commercial ports, the San Francisco group is
ideally situated to handle clients’ diverse and often complex legal issues.
Reflecting
a firmwide philosophy, our clients’ cases are not worked, they are solved, in a timely
