Kristy Sambor is a shareholder with Keesal, Young & Logan in its Long Beach office. Kristy is a member of KYL’s Cybersecurity and Privacy law practice. Her work involves advising businesses of all sizes on data privacy compliance, cybersecurity, and data breach response. She helps clients identify and manage personal data and reduce legal risk, while building customer trust and business relationships. She educates clients on how to weigh legal risk and reform their business practices to comply with federal and state privacy and breach notification laws, and with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Kristy’s privacy-by-design approach empowers clients to self-asses their privacy and cybersecurity compliance on an on-going basis as their businesses continue to grow and evolve. Kristy is certified by the International Association of Privacy Professionals in United States Privacy Law (CIPP/US).
Kristy’s practice includes a broad range of civil litigation in both state and federal court and before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. Since joining Keesal, Young & Logan, Kristy has defended financial services firms and registered representatives in matters involving breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, negligence, unsuitability, and violation of federal and state securities and customer protection laws. She has defended securities firms in numerous multimillion-dollar actions involving sophisticated partnerships, high net worth investors, and alternative securities investments.
Kristy also regularly represents mortgage banking clients in the defense of class actions and claims involving individual lending transactions. Kristy acts as counsel with respect to a wide range of mortgage banking matters, including loan origination, loss mitigation, defective foreclosures process, lien priority, and property preservation claims. Kristy also handles a variety of general business and admiralty litigation, including claims for breach of contract, property loss, and personal injury. She also regularly conducts maritime casualty investigations at onshore and offshore facilities in the Port of Long Beach and Port of Los Angeles.
Kristy graduated cum laude as a triple major from the University of Washington in 2007. She earned her B.A. degree in law, societies & justice (LSJ), political science, and geography. In 2010, Kristy received her J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law. In her first-year legal writing course, Kristy received the “Best Overall Advocate Award” for excellence in legal writing and oral advocacy and “Highest Honors” both semesters. Kristy also served as Executive Editor for the San Diego International Law Journal and as a travelling national competitor for the University of San Diego School of Law’s Appellate Moot Court Board. While in law school, Kristy clerked for the California Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Attorney General’s Office, and served as a Judicial Extern for the Honorable Judge Thomas J. Whelan of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. In 2010, Kristy was named to the Order of Barristers.
In 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016, Kristy was recognized as a Southern California “Rising Star” (a designation limited to 2.5 percent of the outstanding emerging lawyers in Southern California who are age 40 and under). Kristy is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in California.
