Janice Jaco is a Litigation Support Project Manager at Keesal, Young & Logan (KYL) and a Certified eDiscovery Specialist (CEDS).
Janice has been with KYL for over two decades and has managed eDiscovery issues in many of the firm’s most data-intensive cases since 2008. She is responsible for reviewing the evolving eDiscovery federal and state case law, advising the firm’s attorneys of significant developments in this area, and participates in drafting CLE presentations on eDiscovery. She assists with mapping data for litigation holds, drafting litigation hold notices and discovery agreements, and managing the entire discovery process with vendors and the trial team, including budgeting and reporting metrics. Janice advises clients in matters relating to identification, preservation, and collection of ESI, and applies the best approach to each step in the process in order to complete it in the most efficient and just manner possible.
Janice also provides financial analyst support for the firm’s securities practice, drafting profit and loss analyses, graphs, and other demonstratives for cases—work product that has been utilized in over 100 FINRA arbitration hearings.
Janice is actively involved at the forefront of issues related to eDiscovery in the legal industry and was named “eDiscovery Person of the Year” in 2015 by the Association of Certified eDiscovery Specialists (ACEDS). Janice was also a contributing member in updating ACEDS University educational training content to reflect the most recent changes in law, process, and emerging technologies. Janice is also currently one of eight professionals in the U.S. and U.K. steering the eDisclosure/eDiscovery group of the Legal Technology Core Competencies Certification Coalition (LTC4), which has been charged with defining competency standards for attorneys and paraprofessionals in the broad spectrum of skills required to measure eDiscovery competency.
In addition to her CEDS credential, Janice is an Ipro Certified Administrator for Eclipse SE as well as a CaseMap Certified Administrator. In 2015, Janice helped to beta test the pilot testing platform for Procertas’ Legal Tech Audit (LTA), and became one of the first 100 people in the U.S. to be COBOT certified in all three applications tested (Word, Excel, and Adobe Pro).
Janice graduated from California State University Long Beach in 1993 with a B.S. in business administration, with a focus on financial management. Janice participates every two years in rigorous educational training programs to maintain her CEDS certification.
