John Cox is an associate with Keesal Young & Logan in its San Francisco office. His practice includes white collar criminal defense, maritime law, and general civil litigation. He defends individuals and corporations charged with, or under investigation for, crimes or regulatory violations. His recent maritime and energy work involves defending ship owners, marine terminal operators, and corporations accused of environmental crimes. He has also recently represented witnesses in two high profile stock options backdating investigations, and in another matter, obtained a dismissal for a truck driver charged with vehicular manslaughter.
Mr. Cox is also an accomplished civil litigator. His work includes defending clients in all types of civil litigation from securities and employment arbitrations to personal injury and wrongful death claims. He has recently tried Jones Act personal injury cases and employment matters involving breach of contract and alter ego allegations. In addition, Mr. Cox has conducted marine casualty investigations relating to personal injury, cargo damage, oil pollution, and criminal environmental claims.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Cox was a Deputy District Attorney in Alameda County from 1998 to 2005. As a prosecutor he prosecuted hundreds of jury and court trials including homicides, sexual assaults, "Three Strikes," and narcotics cases. Mr. Cox obtained his J.D. from University of California, Hastings College of Law in 1998.
