San Francisco office.
As a litigator and trial lawyer, Mr. Young represents a variety of clients
in commercial
litigation in federal and state court as well as in arbitration. In 2005 and
2007 Mr. Young was recognized as a Northern California "Super Lawyer" by Law & Politics Magazine. Mr. Young’s
trial and arbitration practice focuses on the following areas:
- Securities Litigation: Mr. Young represents securities broker-dealers, registered investment advisors and other licensed individuals in the securities industry. Mr. Young has defended hundreds of securities arbitrations before various SRO, AAA, SEC and privately appointed arbitrators for a variety of Wall Street firms and their licensed employees. Mr. Young has personally arbitrated more than 60 cases to completion. He also represents institutions and individuals in connection with regulatory enforcement investigations and prosecutions.
- Trade Secret/Unfair Trade Practices: Mr. Young represents institutions and individuals in a variety of industries in connection with the movement of employees between competitors. Mr. Young has represented clients in federal court, state court and arbitration throughout the United States in lawsuits and injunctive relief actions involving trade secret misappropriation, employee non-solicitation and non-competition covenants, fiduciary duty and duty of loyalty claims as well as statutory and common law unfair competition claims. In addition to prosecuting and defending these types of claims, Mr. Young advises clients on competitive hiring issues and non-compete and non-solicitation agreements.
Mr. Young represents clients in a broad range of industries, including full service and discount securities brokerage, institutional insurance brokerage, financial consulting, mortgage banking and the pharmaceutical industry.
- Defense of Professional
Liability Claims: Mr. Young defends professionals and professional service providers in the investment, insurance and real estate industries in lawsuits alleging breach of professional duties, errors and omissions and malpractice.
- Toxic Tort/Products Liability: Mr. Young acts as the lead trial lawyer for manufacturers of allegedly defective and toxic products. Mr. Young has personally overseen all aspects of such trials including jury selection, witness examination, motion practice, etc.
Over the past decade, Mr. Young has been primarily responsible for formulating and implementing overall defense strategy in more than 600 toxic tort products liability cases pending in several states.
- Marine Casualty Investigation and Litigation: Mr. Young defends marine casualty, environmental, personal injury and cargo claims for shipowners. In addition, Mr. Young has had significant experience responding to and investigating oil spills and other marine casualties for shipowners.
Mr. Young was born in 1966 in Oakland, California. He is a graduate of St. Mary's College where he was Student Body Vice President and the University of San Francisco School of Law where he was selected as the "Advocate of the Year" in USF's annual school-wide oral advocacy competition.
Mr. Young lives in the East Bay with his wife and four children.
